The agreement between you, the vehicle owner, and LankaRent.
Draft. This describes how the service works today and is pending review by Sri Lankan counsel before launch. It is not yet a binding agreement.
LankaRent operates a marketplace. Vehicles are owned, insured and maintained by their owners. We verify identity and documents on both sides, price and collect the monthly subscription, hold the deposit, and resolve claims. We are not the owner of any vehicle listed and we do not hire vehicles ourselves.
A subscription runs for the term you select. The monthly amount, every charge date, the deposit and the mileage allowance are shown before you enter payment details, and they do not change during the term.
Charges are taken on the same date each month using a payment token held by our payment provider. If a charge fails we retry over the following days and notify you each time. If the retries and the grace period both expire, the subscription is suspended and the vehicle must be returned.
You may cancel at any time before your next charge. You keep the vehicle for the period already paid for and are not charged again. Cancellation does not refund cycles already completed.
The deposit is authorised against your card rather than collected. It may be drawn against for damage beyond fair wear, unpaid excess mileage, traffic fines incurred during your term, or a vehicle returned in a materially worse condition than recorded at handover. Anything drawn is itemised in writing. The remainder is released after the vehicle is returned and the dispute window closes.
Every listed vehicle must carry comprehensive insurance with the rent-a-car loading. We record the policy and its expiry and withdraw the listing when it lapses. The excess payable on a claim is set by the policy and is your responsibility where the claim arises from your use.
We may suspend an account or withdraw a listing where documents lapse, where verification fails or is falsified, where payment repeatedly fails, or where conduct puts the other party or their property at risk.
Our responsibility is the operation of the platform: verification, billing, deposits and claims handling. The condition and roadworthiness of a vehicle rest with its owner, and how it is driven rests with the renter. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded under Sri Lankan law.
These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Colombo have jurisdiction.
